Sometimes the right thing isn’t a hard or a sacraficing choice. Sometimes the choice that makes the world better, makes your own life better as well. Buying premium, fair trade coffee isn’t just an indulgence — it’s empowering farmers in the poorest countries of the world.
Single origin, organic coffee isn’t the kind of thing you find laying about on your grocery store shelf. Unfortunately, the beans are far too delicate to withstand warehouse storage and truck shipments, they also degrade within months of their roast. That doesn’t mean that trying amazing organic, premium coffee is out of reach for the average family, you just need to do a little comparison shopping online. if you’re starting out, my first recommendation is to read our Britt Coffee Review
Britt coffee is all the things you want coffee to be; fair trade, premium quality, freshly roasted, single-origin and affordable. In fact, it’s everything you’ll need to start enjoying amazing coffee from around the world. No more guess work and no hassle of roasting your beans at home. Since all their coffee is organic and purchased through fair trade, you can also feel great that you’re helping small farmers from around the world support their families and improve their lives. (You do remember how almost all store brand coffee pays their farmers less than 1% of profits, fair trade puts an end to exploitive prices by requiring at least 7% of the purchase price to be paid to growers)
Why Fair Trade?
Imagine if someone offered you 7 times more pay for your work. What kind of difference would that make for your family? Free trade is that difference for farming communities in the poorest areas of the world.
Sure, it costs more. However, when you purchase fair trade you help small farmers improve their local life, build schools, infrastructure, even gain access to fresh water. All conditions large corporations are eager to exploit in exchange for larger profits. The Guardian ran a wonderful piece, here about the life of a coffee grower at the hands of corporations. Purchasing fair trade and paying what is less than a few minutes of work to us, can change the lives of thousands of families.
Why Premium Quality?
Quality is an amazing thing, it doesn’t stop getting better once we find something good. I hear all the time, Starbucks is great, and it is, no two ways about it. Starbucks has built an empire out of really good coffee but, it’s not the best. Not even close. A large corporation like Starbucks could never deliver the best coffee in the world to its consumers. They, instead, deliver the best they can while still pocketing hefty profits.
Stepping above Starbucks is eye-opening, invigorating, and surprisingly affordable. In fact, the best coffee in the world costs just about 10 dollars a cup. That’s right, for about an hours work, you could enjoy the coffee auction houses fight over, that kings sip eagerly, that billionaires drink, and coffee gurus gush about. Britt coffee, sadly, isn’t the best coffee in the world , but it is very close. Even better, it’s available for a very affordable, down to earth price.
Here’s the breakdown: (All measured at 9grams per cup)
Maxwell 28oz $7.44: 8.5 cents a cup
Folgers 10.3oz $3.94: 11.5 cents a cup
McCafe 12oz $5.84: 15.8 cents a cup
Starbucks 20oz $11.98: 19.3 cents a cup
From Cafe Britt
Cafe Britt Coffee 12oz $11.00: 32 cents a cup
For just 21 cents a cup over Folgers, you’ll get fresh roasted, amazing coffee, that was purchased through fair trade, and grown organically from a company that cares about the sustainability of premium coffee.
Of course, great coffee may not be for every day, despite the raving review I give Britt coffee, I still enjoy my good old fashioned standby on a cold day. Yet, don’t you owe it to yourself to taste the coffee from the most remote regions of the world?
